Nat’l Anthem, Patriotic Songs to Become Cultural Assets

Three relics of modern to contemporary music in Korea will be registered by the government as cultural assets.

They include the handwritten score of the South Korean national anthem by composer Ahn Eak-tai, a book of songs from the Korean independence army during Japanese colonial rule of Korea in the first half of the 20th century, and a book of patriotic songs.

The handwritten music score was donated by Ahn’s family to the Independence Hall of Korea. It has an accurate record stating the relic was written on April 18th, 1949. Its date of origin makes it much more valuable as a historical artifact.

The first book of liberation army songs and the book of patriotic songs are the oldest original copies remaining, which boosts their historical value as well.
