The South Korean delegation that traveled to the Mount Geumgang resort in the North on Wednesday has returned home without concrete answers regarding the disposal of South Korean assets at the mountain getaway.
According to the Unification Ministry, the South Korean side failed to narrow differences in opinion with the North over the schedule of asset disposal. The ministry also said the North did not inform the delegation on additional measures to take involving the assets.
Officials from the North's Guidance Bureau for Comprehensive Development of Scenic Spots, which oversees working-level discussions on tourism in the resort, served as the North’s representatives.
The twelve-member delegation crossed the military demarcation line (MDL) into North Korea through the Inter-Korean Transit Office on a cross-border land route near the east coast at around nine-forty in the morning. About six hours later, the delegation returned South via the same route. The group was led by the Unification Ministry’s chief of the Social and Cultural Exchange Division Seo Du-hyeon.
North Korea notified the South on June 17th that it will dispose of South Korean assets at the resort, demanding concerned South Korean government and business officials visit Mt. Geumgang before the end of June.
