Gov't to Form Organizing Committee for 2018 Winter Olympics

Culture, Sports and Tourism Vice Minister Mo Chul-min has vowed to speed up the preparation for Pyeongchang’s hosting of the 2018 Winter Olympics, stressing the need to swiftly form an organizing committee.

The vice minister told reporters on Thursday that the committee will be launched under the culture ministry.

Mo said that although regulations require the committee to be formed within five months following the announcement of the host city, the government will advance the schedule to be better prepared for the event.

The vice minister added that the government will build stadiums for luge, bobsleigh and speed skating events. While the nation currently has just seven stadiums, a total of 13 stadiums are needed to host the global event.
