S.Korean Officials in Inter-Korean Trade to Visit NK on July 12th

Three officials from the inter-Korean economic cooperation company Acheon Global Corporation will visit Gaeseong on Tuesday.

A Unification Ministry official said that the officials from Acheon, including CEO Yuk Jae-hui, applied for a one-day visit to North Korea to monitor logistics facilities in the inter-Korean border city of Gaeseong. The official stated that the ministry gave its approval.

This marks the third visit to North Korea by South Korean business officials since a measure was put in place on May 24, 2010 that banned all South Korean exchange with the North.

The ministry said it would selectively allow such visits in order to protect South Korean assets invested in North Korea and company officials doing business with the North. It also stated that it will oversee meetings with North Korean officials in a third nation.

Some companies that trade with North Korea are reportedly preparing to contact their North Korean counterparts in China in order to discuss how to deal with facilities invested in North Korea, raw materials, and inventory.
