Japan's Chief Nuclear Envoy to Visit S. Korea on Sunday

Japan's chief delegate to the six-party nuclear talks is expected to visit South Korea on Sunday.

A Japanese government source said that Shinsuke Sugiyama will visit Seoul and meet his South Korean counterpart Wi Sung-lac to have discussions on the denuclearization dialogue which have been stalled since December 2008.

The source also said that the two officials are expected to reaffirm their countries' position regarding the nuclear negotiations, ahead of a meeting between the foreign ministers of South Korea, the U.S., and Japan that is slated to be held on Friday of next week.

Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo have repeatedly stressed that inter-Korean dialogue must be held before the six-party and bilateral talks are held.
