A senior U.S. official says the United States is open to extending some aspects of its nuclear agreement with North Korea. He also reiterated the United States wants to resolve the nuclear issue through dialogues. The official, who asked not to be named, cautioned against assuming that any U.S. position, particularly with respect to the elements in the 19-94 deal, is fixed in one particular way. He said the United States has not made any decision on what it will or will not do on any of those elements. The official was speaking in the Mexican resort of Los Cabos on the sidelines of an APEC forum. He played down reports of disagreements between Washington and its Asian allies on North Korea. Asked if the South Korean view squares with the U.S. view, he said there are apparently no differences now.
