S.Korean Civic Groups Deliver Flour to NK

South Korean civic groups have delivered flour to North Korea for the first time since North Korea’s shelling of Yeonpyeong Island last November.

A South Korean delegation consisting of six officials from civilian aid organizations delivered 300 tons of flour to North Korea Tuesday. They arrived in Bongdong in the North Korean border city of Gaeseong via a cross-border overland route.

The flour will be distributed to nurseries and kindergartens in Sariwon, Hwanghae Province, and to other vulnerable people.

The Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation is planning to deliver aid as well. It will transport 25-hundred tons of flour to 82-thousand North Korean people by the end of next month. The council will also send its officials to Sariwon two or three times to monitor the distribution of the aid.
