North Korea says its recent high-level talks with the United States in New York were held amid a sincere and constructive atmosphere.
During an interview with the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency Monday, a spokesman for the North’s Foreign Ministry said that North Korean and U.S. officials held extensive dialogue on improving North Korea-U.S. relations, securing stability on the Korean Peninsula, and resuming the six-way nuclear talks.
The spokesman said that during the talks, the two sides agreed that seeking the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through peaceful measures through dialogue, and improving bilateral relations would meet the interest of both nations.Both nations also agreed to continue to hold dialogue.
The spokesman added that the North wants the six-way talks to resume swiftly without any preconditions, and it plans to implement the September 19th Joint Statement based on the action-for-action principle.
A North Korean delegation led by First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-kwan visited New York last Thursday and Friday at the invitation of the U.S. government to hold the high-level talks. The North’s delegation met with U.S. officials led by Special Representative for North Korea Policy Stephen Bosworth.
