Metropolitan rapid transit corporations and the Korea Electric Power Corporation will now have to meet stronger regulations when installing communication systems.

The Korea Communications Commission’s Radio Research Agency said Monday that it boosted regulations for such corporations, so they would be better equipped in the face of typhoons or strong winds.

The agency said it has applied the same rules on the transit and electric power corporations that are applied to telecommunication service providers and network operators during the installation of communication systems.

Under the regulations, power lines, antennas and pylons installed by rapid transit corporations and the power corporation will have to withstand strong winds blowing up to 144 kilometers per hour.

The agency said that the strengthened regulations are expected to greatly resolve cases where public services are halted by disruptions in communication systems caused by typhoons or high winds.
