Music Company Seeking Gov’t Approval for Concert in Pyongyang

A South Korean based music production company is seeking the government’s permission to hold a concert in Pyongyang in mid-August.

Lindenbaum Music Company submitted an application to perform in North Korea to the Unification Ministry on Monday. The company is planning to hold an inter-Korean orchestra concert in Pyongyang on August 15th under the baton of Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit.

The orchestra consists of one-hundred South and North Korean young musicians.

Lindenbaum Music said Detoit will visit South Korea ahead of the envisioned concert, which falls on the nation's independence day from Japanese colonial rule. The event will be financially sponsored by the Swiss government.

The orchestra is expected to play Beethoven’s symphony “Hero” and traditional Korean folk song “Arirang” in the concert.
