S.Korea Fines Apple for Location Data Gathering

South Korea has become the first nation to sanction Apple and Google for illegally collecting users' location data.

The Korea Communications Commission held a general meeting Wednesday and decided to fine Apple Korea three million won or about 28-hundred dollars. It says that Apple Korea's collecting of user location data without the consent of users has violated domestic location information laws.

The KCC also urged Apple Korea and Google Korea to correct the practice of saving unencrypted location data on smartphones.
