S.Korea Expresses Hope to Send NK Relief Supplies Soon

The government says it hopes South Korean aid to help flood damaged North Korea will be delivered soon.

Unification Ministry vice spokeswoman Lee Jong-joo said Friday that there have been a series of reports on damage in North Korea from the recent heavy rains. She said the ministry hopes that inter-Korean discussions on flood recovery aid provision will conclude so North Korean people can benefit from the South's help.

The government offered on Wednesday to send North Korea some five-billion won in emergency relief including daily necessities and medication.

However, North Korea requested food and cement on Thursday, but the South reaffirmed its original proposal.

The ministry spokeswoman said sending additional support to the North will be considered after the South's current offer to send aid is carried out. She said the ministry is not currently reviewing North Korea’s request.
