This year’s Sacheon International Percussion Festival is underway.

Percussionists pour their heart and soul into the music while viewers express excitement over African rhythms.

Sacheon in South Gyeongsang Province deserves to host the international percussion festival, as it is the origin of Jinju-Samcheonpo nongak, which was designated as an intangible cultural asset. Nongak is a traditional folk music played by farmers in Korea.

On the stage, musicians are so powerful and charismatic that they overwhelm the audience.

Twenty-four teams from 11 countries, including the U.S., Brazil and India, participated in this year’s festival which marked its fifth year.

With the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang” played, the show comes to a climax and the harmony of percussions forms a common global language.
