UNICEF: N.Koreans at Risk of Starvation

Radio Free Asia and the Voice of America are reporting that UNICEF said North Korean government food rations will stop in August putting six-point-one million North Koreans in danger.

The U.S.-based broadcaster reported that UNICEF said in its Mid-year Review, 2011 UNICEF Humanitarian Action for Children, that 37% of the North Korean population depends on external food aid.

It also reported that UNICEF said it is cash-strapped currently due to not having collected 84-percent of its total budget for providing aid to North Korea. The U.N. agency said if the international community does not provide support the ratio to total population of children under the age of five and expecting mother who live in rural areas and are severely malnourished would rise.
