N.Korean Leader’s Special Train Arrives in Khasan

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s special train is known to have arrived at Khasan, Russia, on Saturday morning.

A government source said that a welcome ceremony was held for Kim at Khasan.

A highly knowledgeable source on North Korea-Russia relations said that Kim will go on to a tour of facilities of a dam in Ussuriisk near Vladivostok.

Kim will reportedly visit Ulan Ude, a northeastern Siberian city near Baikal Lake, where he is planning to hold a North Korea-Russia summit with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

A government official said Medvedev may not be the only counterpart meeting for Kim. The likelihood of a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and the North Korean leader cannot be ruled out. If Kim’s visit to Russia extends to more than one week, there is a high likelihood that the Kim-Putin meeting could be held.
