N.Korea Requests S.Korean NGO Council for Flood Relief Aid

North Korea has asked a group of South Korean organizations which provides aid to North Korea for flood relief aid to the North Korean cities of Gaesong and Anju, in South Pyeongan Province.

The North sent a cable to the group, known as the Korea NGO Council for Cooperation with North Korea, on Saturday, saying it had discussed the flood relief offered by the South. The cable stated that the South Korean council said that it can send aid to restore the two regions.

The South Korean council visited Gaesong on August 13th. The South Korean representatives discussed flood aid packages with North Korean officials and asked the North to send its request and position in a cable.

With North Korea expressing its position, the council will discuss what items will be sent and to which destinations. The relief group plans to deliver the aid before the Chuseok Thanksgiving holiday.
