Jogye Order Announces Position of Peace Among Religions

South Korea’s largest Buddhist sect, the Jogye Order, announced on Tuesday its declaration of peace among the different religions.

The Jogye Order’s Hwajaeng Committee for Harmonious Debate said in its declaration, the subtitle of which was the 21st Century Ashoka declaration, presented South Korean Buddhists’ stance on peace among different religions. It said Buddhist followers are saddened by disputes among religions, are open towards truth, and are respectful of diverse religions.

Ashoka was an Indian emperor of the Maurya Dynasty in 3 BC. Inscribed on the Ashoka Pillars are writings stressing the importance of respecting another’s religion and value of life.
