World Championships in Athletics Enters 2nd Day in Daegu

The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics has entered its second day in Daegu.

On Sunday morning, Jason Richardson of the U.S. ranked first in the first round of the men’s 110-meter hurdles event, China’s Liu Xiang came in second and David Oliver of the U.S. ranked third.

At night, Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica will seek to break his world record of nine-point-58 seconds in the men’s 100-meter event. His challenge comes as his fellow countryman, Asafa Powell, withdrew from the race due to injury.

Also, Russian pole vaulter Elena Isinbaeva will compete in the women qualification round.

In the first round of the women’s 100-meter event, Carmelita Jeter of the U.S. and Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica will seek to post top scores.
