Novelist Shin Kyung-sook has been invited to the Brisbane Writers Festival in Australia as the only South Korean author to receive the honor.

The festival committee said on its homepage that Shin, known for her global bestseller "Please Look after Mother," her first book to appear in English, is one of South Korea's most widely read and acclaimed novelists.

The Brisbane Writers Festival launched in 1962 is a global gala of famed writers and publishers attending from some 30 countries. The event opens September 7th.
