N.Korea Blasts Nomination of Unification Minister as Presidential Advisor

North Korea blasted the nomination of South Korean Unification Minister as the presidential special advisor on unification, calling it "more theatrics of deception."

North Korea’s Korean Central Broadcasting Station said on Friday that the South’s leaders relieved Hyun In-taek from his post as Unification Minister, but placed him as the special presidential adviser on unification to give him authority to steer unification issues. The station claimed that with such a move, the South is aiming to continue its hostile North Korea policies.

The broadcast also said that the South Korean government was only forced to replace Hyun due to vehement opposition against him from the public.

President Lee Myung-bak on Tuesday named former South Korean Ambassador to China Yu Woo-ik as his new unification minister to succeed Hyun In-taek, while keeping Hyun as his close aide as the presidential special advisor on unification.
