NK Marks 63rd Anniversary of Its Founding

North Korea held a military parade Friday at Kim Il-sung Plaza in Pyongyang to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the North Korean regime.

Members of the North’s Worker-Peasant Red Guard participated in the parade, which was aired live by North Korea’s Korean Central Television.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and his third son Jong-un, Kim’s heir apparent, reviewed the parading forces in a stand.

North Korea holds a military parade every five years or ten years to mark its founding day or the anniversary of the establishment of its Workers’ Party. It’s unusual for the North to hold a military parade in a year that doesn’t match the five or ten-year cycle.

The North's Minister of People’s Armed Forces Kim Yong-chun delivered a report in the ceremony.
