A leading French newspaper has reported that international human rights groups are forming a coalition to address North Korea’s human rights situation.
Le Monde said in an article reported from Tokyo that international human rights organizations are expecting higher awareness of human rights issues in North Korea. It said, however, that South Korea is hesitant over how to deal with North Korea.
Le Monde said some 40 international human rights groups, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, forged an international coalition to end crimes against humanity in North Korea last Thursday in Tokyo. The French newspaper said that the organization targets surveying human rights situations in North Korea and the establishment of a body that seeks to investigate and advise North Korea to improve its human rights situation.
On the improvement of human rights situations in North Korea, Le Monde said that South Korean opinions are divided. The French newspaper reported that a law to address human rights situations in North Korea, which has been pending in South Korea since April, reflects the divided opinions well.
