N.Korea-China Joint Development Zones Not Attracting Investment

Barely any investments have been made for three months in the North Korea-China joint development projects regarding the Hwanggeumpyeong and Rajin-Sonbong zones.

A Beijing source on North Korea said although the Chinese government is encouraging its businesses to invest in the North Korean regions, almost none have been made.

In early June, North Korea and China organized a committee for a joint development and management project. It held groundbreaking ceremonies on the island of Hwanggeumpyeong in the Amnok River and on the Rajin-Sonbong Economic Special Zone, which is the northernmost city in the Korean Peninsula.
