“If N.Korea Blocks Gas Pipe, Sea Route is Planned”

If North Korea blocks the flow of gas to South Korea after the two Koreas and Russia build gas pipelines connecting the three countries, the disrupted amount will be sent to South Korea via maritime routes at a 30 percent discount.

Ruling Grand National Party (GNP) Chairman Hong Joon-pyo unveiled such a plan at a GNP Supreme Council meeting on Thursday. Hong said that the contigency measure will be stipulated in South Korea's contract with Russia.

The chairman also said that the ongoing construction of a liquefied natural gas storage base in Gangwon Province is in preparation for receiving the Russian LNG gas via the maritime routes.

Hong said the construction of the gas pipe will be the responsibility of Russia. He added the pipeline project would serve as an opportunity to reestablish inter-Korean relations.
