Chinese FM: China Plans to Push for Resumption of Nuke Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi says as the chair nation of the six-way talks, China plans to continue efforts to implement the Joint Statement of the Fourth Round of the Six-Party Talks that the member parties agreed in 2005.

On the sixth anniversary of the joint statement that calls for denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Yang gave a speech in Beijing, saying that the six-party talks will ultimately succeed as long as the commitment to the statement is maintained.

When asked about the prospect of resuming the six-party talks, North Korea’s chief negotiator to the multilateral dialogue Ri Yong-ho said that the North wants to restart the talks soon.

South Korea's chief envoy to the six-party nuclear talks Wi Sung-lac and his North Korean counterpart Ri Yong-ho are slated to meet in Beijing on Wednesday for a second round of inter-Korean denuclearization talks.
