The Second Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies closed its two-day session Tuesday in Seoul after adopting a Seoul Plan of Action calling for pro-democracy and anti-terrorism declarations. Approximately 1,000 delegates from 112 democratic countries around the world also adopted the "Community of Democracies Statement on Terrorism" at the end of their discussions in southern Seoul. The main theme of the conference was "Democracy: Investing for Peace and Prosperity." Officials from 10 nations, which co-sponsored the conference, held a joint news conference after the conference during which they evaluated that the Seoul conference was quite successful bearing significant results. The biennial ministerial meeting was launched in Warsaw in June 2000 as an international coalition of the world's democratic nations with a view to further consolidating democracy and responding effectively to emerging threats against it.
