NK Denounces US Preconditions for Resuming Nuke Talks

North Korea is claiming that the United States unfairly set preconditions for the resumption of the stalled six-way nuclear talks.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency said Tuesday that the U.S. is creating false public sentiment by making it seem that only the North must first carry out certain steps to reopen the nuclear negotiations.

The statement said if the six-way talks fail to open and efforts to resume the talks bear no fruit, all facts will show which party is to blame for such failed attempts.

In particular, the news agency raised issue with U.S. President Barack Obama’s remark during last month’s U.N. General Assembly that the North failed to take steps to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

The statement said the U.S.’s move to unilaterally seek preconditions for the resumption of nuclear talks is making it hard for the North to find sincerity for dialogue on the part of the U.S.

The news agency said if preconditions are required, they should be established equally among all parties of the nuclear talks in line with the September 19th joint statement.
