The average South Korean student is given his or her first cell phone at the age of ten.
According to a survey of 6,052 students, South Korean students receive their first mobile phones when they are ten and post an average monthly phone bill from 20-thousand won to 30-thousand won.
The survey was conducted by Rep. Kim Choon-jin and the medical school of Dankook University. Kim is a member of the parliamentary committee on education, science and technology.
The survey shows that more than 55-hundred students or 91 percent of the respondents have cell phones. It detailed that cell phones are owned by 82-point-sevent percent of elementary students, 96-point-four percent of middle school students and 96-point-six percent of high school students.
Students pay an average of 27,290 won in cell phone fees—20,026 won for elementary students, 29,048 won for middle school students and 34,700 won for high school students 34,700 won.
