A Bronze Age grave has been found in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province. Known as a “Jugu” grave, the burial site is encircled by a trench to protect it.

The Gangwon Research Institute of Archaeological and Cultural Properties found the Jugu grave, which is classified as an early Bronze Age grave. Another prehistoric site where a trench was dug to make a pit dwelling has also been found. Both sites will be made public on Friday.

Researchers say this is the first time the practice of placing a body in a double wooden casket was found in the region. They believe it is an important discovery in understanding burial practices during the Bronze Age.
