Four ancient graves from the Baekje Kingdom have been found in the second round of a project to excavate a historical site in Suchon-ri near Gongju in South Chungcheong Province.

A coffin was found in the rectangle-shaped stone tomb and next to it sat a pair of corroded gilt bronze shoes.

These are the graves of ruling class people of the ancient kingdom in the late fourth century or the fifth century.

The new finds bring the total of Baekje graves found in Suchon-ri to ten, since six graves were found in the first round of the excavation project in 2004.

The graves are considered the largest discovery of Baekje remnants since the discovery of King Muryeong's tomb in 1971.

However at this point, only 30 percent of Baekje relics in Suchon-ri have been excavated.
