Repairs of Gaeseong Complex Road to Begin Next Week

Repairs may begin as early as next week on a road that was built for North Korean workers to commute to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

A Unification Ministry official said Thursday the Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee, the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, and North Korea’s Central Guidance Bureau for Special Zone Development have coordinated on the key points of an agreement to repair the road.

The official said as the agreement is expected to be signed soon, the ministry believes construction could begin next week.

The official added if cold weather does not impede the progress of the project workers could complete the repairs in three months.

The one-point-eight billion won project will restore a four-point-five-kilometer stretch of road for commuters linking the city of Gaeseong with the Gaeseong Industrial Complex. The plans also detail an expansion of the bus depot in front of the industrial complex.
