UM: No Plans to Send Food to N.Korea

A Unification Ministry official says the ministry currently has no plans to deliver food support to North Korea.

The nation’s government has approved the resumption of provisions to North Korea through the World Health Organization, which is a United Nations agency.

Despite the ministry's decision to resume humanitarian aid to vulnerable North Koreans, including infants, by providing medicine and medical equipment through the WHO, the official said that the ministry is not reviewing support through the World Food Program, which has been active in providing food to the North.

The official said that even after the government suspended contact with North Korea in May 2010 following the sinking of a naval vessel for which the North was blamed, it maintained aid to North Korea for purely humanitarian purposes.
