Jeju on New 7 Wonders of Nature List

South Korea’s Jeju Island has been named on a provisional New 7 Wonders of Nature list.

The Swiss-based New7Wonders Foundation announced the provisional list early Saturday, Korea time. The list includes the Amazon in Brazil, Halong Bay in Vietnam, Iguazu Falls in Argentina, Jeju Island, the Komodo National Park in Indonesia, the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park in the Philippines, and Table Mountain in South Africa. The locations are listed in alphabetical order, and rankings were not disclosed.

Jeju Island was designated as a Biosphere Reserve in 2002 and was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2007. Nine sites in Jeju received recognition as UNESCO Global Geoparks in 2010.

The New 7 Wonders of Nature were selected through a poll conducted on the Internet, via text messages, and telephone surveys held between July 2009 and November 11th this year from 28 finalists.
