N.Korea Calls for Forum on Peace in the Yellow Sea

The North Korean branch of the Committee for Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration has called on its South Korean counterpart to hold a joint forum to discuss how to turn the Yellow Sea into a “Sea of Peace.”

The committee in the North suggested that the talks be held in late November in North Korea’s border city of Gaesong.

The message was delivered via fax to the South Korean side ahead of November 23rd, the date which marks one year since North Korea shelled Yeonpyeong Island near the inter-Korean maritime border in the Yellow Sea.

Although the South Korean side has yet to make a decision, an official from the South Korean committee said that the offer itself is regarded positively. The official added that the South Korean side would have to coordinate its position and discuss with the government and other related organizations before making a decision on the offer.
