The United States and Russia are urging Iraq to comply with a UN disarmament resolution. US President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin made the call after their meeting Friday in St. Petersburg. Putin said the United States should not act alone against Iraq, but should consult with its allies and the UN Security Council before taking any further steps. Bush went to Russia after attending a NATO summit in Prague. The two summits also discussed North Korean nuclear issues. Bush asked Putin to persuade North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons development program. Putin said he fully supports a nuclear-free Korean peninsula but he added that Bush should resolve the issue through dialogues rather than pressure.
