The traditional Korean martial art of taekkyeon and tightrope walking known as jultagi have been registered on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Deliberations were held Monday over the addition of the cultural assets to the list at the sixth session of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Bali, Indonesia.

South Korea now has a total of 13 cultural assets recorded on UNESCO's intangible heritage list including the Royal Ancestral Ritual in the Jongymo Shrine and its Music, which was designated in 2001.

The two practices are also designated as important intangible cultural assets by the South Korean government.

Taekkyon is a uniquely Korean martial art centered on the use of a fighter’s bare hands.
