Mount Bukhan National Park Draws Most Visitors

The National Park Service says Mount Bukhan National Park is the most popular destination for visitors among national parks in Korea.

The service surveyed the number of people visiting parks last year and found that Bukhan drew the most at eight-and a-half million. Mount Seorak National Park followed with just under three-point-eight million visitors and Mount Jiri with roughly three-million.

The least visited was the Mount Wolchul National Park, which drew just under 360-thousand visitors. Mount Chiak posted slightly higher numbers at 520-thousand and Taean Haean finished the year with just under 700-thousand visitors.

Overall, more than 42-million visitors went to National Parks last year, up from a total of 26-million in 2006.

The park service attributes the sharp rise in the number of visitors to the elimination of entrance fees at National Parks, a growing interest in outdoor leisure activities, and the five-day workweek.
