Clinton Calls on N.Korea to Take Steps for Denuclearization

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged North Korea to take concrete action for peace, stability and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

Clinton said Wednesday in a news conference following the opening ceremony of the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan that the U.S. stands with South Korea and it looks to North Korea to take concrete steps that promote denuclearization.

She added that the focus of the South Korea-U.S. alliance is on facilitating the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and nonproliferation.

Clinton congratulated South Korea on its ratification of the bilateral free trade agreement with the U.S., saying President Lee Myung-bak played a significant role in the deal’s passage. She said the trade pact would create jobs in both economies and provide important opportunities for economic growth.
