N.Korea Claims to Build Nuke Facilities for Peaceful Purposes

North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reports that the North is rapidly building a light water reactor to test and produce low-enriched uranium.

The news agency cited its Foreign Ministry, saying that any nuclear-related concern can be discussed at the six-party talks. The ministry also stated that the peaceful intent of the facilities could be confirmed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It claimed that the U.S. and other nations are creating artificial obstacles to resolving the nuclear crisis.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry also added that any attempts to delay nuclear activities for peaceful purposes would prompt a stern, decisive response by North Korea.
