South Korea is seeing sub-zero temperatures as a cold continental high pressure front expands from the northeast.

The morning low Thursday was below zero in the central inland region, and the temperature is expected to drop further overnight. Seoul will post a morning low of minus six degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, the lowest yet this season.

Temperatures will begin warming back up from Monday, but the cold weather will first bring heavy snow to Eastern coastal regions.

Up to 30 centimeters of snow will fall in the Yeoengdong area of Gangwon Province through Friday. Meanwhile, the northern part of North Gyeongsang Province will see as much as 20 centimeters of snow.

With the formation of clouds in the Yellow Sea overnight, Jeju Island and the Western coastal region of Jeolla Province are expected to get hit with a three centimeter blanket of snow.
