The Mainichi Shimbun reported in Tokiyo Tuesday the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is set to issue a statement Thursday urging North Korea to scrap its nuclear arms development program. Quoting Japanese government sources, the paper also said the statement, to be issued by the IAEA's Board of Governors in Vienna, will call on the North to accept inspectors from the Vienna-based U.N. agency. According to the newspaper, Tokyo hopes the statement will boost Japan's efforts to move ahead with normalization talks with Pyongyang after North Korea agrees to abide by its international commitments, including IAEA inspections.
