Gov’t to Finalize Standards for Writing High School History Textbooks

The National Institute of Korean History will submit a final proposal on standards for writing high school history textbooks to the Ministry of Education on Wednesday.

The institute’s final proposal includes the addition of explanations on Japan’s forceful conscription of Korean laborers and sex slaves for Japanese soldiers, and the activities of Korean women’s organizations during Japanese colonial rule.

The Ministry of Education will finalize and announce standards for writing high school history textbooks on December 30th following a review.

The ministry finalized the standards for writing middle school history textbooks last month.
