'China Prepares for Unexpected from North Korea'

A Chinese television station says China is running a task force with high-ranking officials in case of an unexpected event in North Korea.

Phoenix Television, a Hong Kong-based broadcaster, said the group was formed to immediately act upon events occurring in North Korea.

Quoting the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, the program said that the task force aims to respond quickly to any changes within North Korea in cooperation with military, intelligence, foreign affairs and national security agencies.

The program also said the Chinese military took up battle positions on the border between North Korea and China in preparation for a possible contingency. The program said the movement of the People’s Liberation Army troops, which were originally based in Shenyang, was observed by U.S. reconnaissance satellites for three days from December 19th.
