Former First Lady Lee Hee-ho and Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun will return home from North Korea on Tuesday afternoon.
A civic condolence delegation of 18 members, including Lee and Hyun, are on a two-day visit to the communist state to pay respects to late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
On Monday night, Lee and Hyun visited the Geumsusan Memorial Palace in Pyongyang where the body of Kim Jong-il is lying in state and offered their condolences to the North’s new leader, Kim Jong-un. North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency said the junior Kim expressed his deep gratitude to the South Korean delegation.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Lee and Hyun held separate talks with Kim Jong-un or with other ranking North Korean officials such as parliamentary chief Kim Yong-nam, Director of the United Front Department of the ruling Workers' Party Kim Yang-gon and Kim Ki-nam, who is a secretary of the Workers' Party.
Officials at the South Korean Unification Ministry and Hyundai Asan said they have heard no news from the condolence delegation since Monday evening.
The delegation is set to return home through the Dorasan Customs, Immigration & Quarantine (CIQ) office after passing through the city of Gaeseong in North Korea.
