Joseon Dynasty Annals to be Translated Into English

The annals of the Joseon Dynasty will be available in English soon.

The annals, or also known as Joseon Wangjo Sillok, have been listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World registry.

The National Institute of Korean History has started the project with a budget of 500 million won this year.

The institute aims to complete the translation by 2033. The translation work will be handed over to English language experts as well as Korean scholars.

Once the translation is completed, it will be released for public on the internet. A summarized version will also be published.

The annals are a recorded history of the Joseon Dynasty for 472 years and was designated as a national treasure in 1973. UNESCO enlisted the annals in its registry in 1997 along with the Hunminjeongeum.
