North Korea says the body of late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il will lie in state permanently at the Geumsusan Memorial Palace.
The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that the North’s ruling Workers’ Party announced its intent in a special report Thursday.
The body of North Korea’s founder Kim Il-sung is also on view at the Geumsusan Memorial Palace, which served as his office while he ruled the regime.
Thursday’s announcement indicates that the body of Kim Jong-il will be embalmed and put on display.
North Korea’s ruling party also unveiled plans to designate Kim Jong-il’s birthday on February 16th as the “Day of the Shining Star.” The party also said it would put up portraits and build memorial statues of the late leader nationwide to honor and remember him.
