Government officials said Monday South Korea will hold a ceremony Tuesday to erect a monument at Seoul World Cup Stadium commemorating the country's co-hosting the 2002 World Cup with Japan. The construction of the monument, which features the words, "For the hopeful future of South Korean and Japanese people and their ever-lasting friendship," follows a July agreement between the leaders of the two neighboring countries. South Korea plans to transfer the monument from the stadium to a World Cup memorial hall once construction of the hall is completed. Japan reportedly plans to erect a similar monument at the VIP Hall of International Stadium Yokohama, the venue of the 2002 FIFA World Cup final.
