Gov't to Promote and Globalize Traditional Culture

The Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry has announced a strategy to promote, modernize and globalize traditional Korean culture.

Culture Minister Choe Kwang-shik told a news conference on Monday that the government will raise South Korea’s rankings in the Nation Brands Index for the traditional culture section to around 20th place from the current 35th by 2015.

To that end, the ministry selected ten major mid- and long-term projects, including one to create a space for people to enjoy and learn about traditional Korean culture at hotels and airports.

The ministry plans to pour 33-and-a-half billion won this year and 230 billion won during 2013 and 2014 for the ten projects.
