The domestic movie industry is protesting a move that would impose music copyright fees on films screened at theaters.

Eleven film organizations, including the Korea Film Producers Association, on Tuesday held a news conference, urging the government to scrap the plan.

The film organizations claimed that they already pay off the music copyright fees during the production stage, arguing that it is unreasonable to be charged an additional fee when the completed films are screened at theaters.

Last month, the Korea Music Copyright Association presented a plan to revise regulations on the music copyright fees to the Culture Ministry, demanding the government to allow the fees be collected for music played during movies shown in theaters.
