Foreign Ministry Urges China Not To Send Back N. Korean Defectors

Liberty Forward Party Representative Park Sun-young says China will soon forcibly transfer nine North Korean escapees to the border city of Tumen.

Park told reporters on Friday about China's efforts to repatriate the escapees that were detained by Chinese authorities earlier this month. South Korea’s foreign ministry says China has not confirmed anything on this matter.

The foreign ministry says it continues to call on the Chinese government through South Korea’s embassy in China and reiterate it does not support coerced repatriation against defectors' will.

Meanwhile, an activist group in South Korea says it has launched a global movement to stop Chinese authorities from sending North Korean defectors back to Pyongyang through social network services and e-mail.
